[edit] Introduction
As an adaptation of the novel The Sentimental Swordsman from the renowned writer, Gu Long, The Romantic Swordsman brings you a combat-themed adventure revolving around love, brotherhood and conspiracy. The story starts with a young swordsman named Fei (Wong Yuen-sun) meeting Li Xun-huan (Paul Chu Kong), the Flying Swordsman who is known for not missing one single stroke, by chance. This encounter turns the two men into the closest of friends. One day Li comes across his sworn brother, Long Xiao-yun, and his wife Lin Shi-yin (Lee Lam-lam) who happens to be Li's ex-lover. Even though they haven't seen each other for 20 years, Long is still worried that Li and his wife who were lovers in the past may get back together and so he frames Li claiming that he is the wanted Plum Blossom Robber. Fei, coming to Li's rescue, gets himself severely injured but, luckily, he is saved by Lin Xian-er (Wong Hang-sau) who has been nick-named the prettiest girl on earth. And how could a perfectly healthy man in his prime possibly resist such a kind-hearted stunner? The story continues with Li being put in an open trial at a Shao Lin court. Thinking that the only way to get his pal out of jeopardy is to make himself a suspect, Fei tries to steal some ritual books from the Shao Lin in the name of the Plum Blossom Robber but in vain. However, help arrives just then in the form of an eminent monk who clears his name. Fei and his rescuer are finally sent to go hunt for the real Plum Blossom Robber by a Buddhist abbot. However they later learn to their surprise that the thief is not a he but a she as they unveilthat Lin the belle is the infamous robber!
This classic TVB costume drama gives you one of the best renditions of the tale about famous hero Li Xun-huan. Paul Chu portrays his role in a way that makes the heavyhearted scholar-like charmer irresistible even to a lady.! Of course Lee Lam-lam and Wong Hang-sau make the perfect examples of what an adorable lady in ancient China looks like. And no one will ever forget the classic theme song of this classic drama: The Legend of Flying Swordsman sung by late Roman Tam. The everlasting lyrics of his song are beautifully blended with the magnificence of the drama.
