Summary
When brothers Lee Jin-tae and Lee Jin-seok are drafted into the military to fight in the Korean War, older brother Jin-tae tries to protect his brother from the harsh realities of war. THis result in a conflict between the brother. After some brave yet dangerous military operation by older brother Jin-Seok, his fame begin to rise. Is Jin-Seok doing this to save his brother or did it for the fame? A lot of familly conflict happen, and can the two ever reunite?

My Thoughts
This is one of the best war film i had seen, close to Platoon (Hollywood). With a budget of $12.8 million (US), this was the biggest production in Korea history and it was a success. Selling 2 millions tickets (in Korea) in 5 days. It was directed by the same guy who did Shiri, whcih also talk about the battle between the North and South. The battle were spectaclor and shown great visual to reflect the Korean War. All those people getting shot and bomb everywhere, which look similar to Saving Private Ryan, got me to the edge of my seat. It is not just about people klling people but there were some stratigies they have to use to win some battle. Aside from the all out combat, there were some village combat too. The most important part in this movie is the storyline, which talk about the conflict war has on family. It touch on a number of human effect on the war, like how it torn friends (there was one great scene where the friend of the two brother was force to join North Korea army). Probably the most clever thing the director use in this movie is the beginning when we learn that one of the brother might have die. And we have a confusion on which brother die, this will make the audience wonder who is the one that got kill or if any got kill at all. The acting in this movie was near perfect, starring two hottest actor, and they were perfect for their role. The bigger brother is a shoe shinning person whose dream is to make the best shoe. While his smaller brother is a student who is top of his class. The conflict between the two was intense and suspenseful. The movie was almost 3 hours long, and time seem to go so fast when the movie was finally over.
